Riello UPS Ltd are bringing the Sentryum 60kVA out soon, with the UK planned to receive the first of the new design. At 440x840x1320mm the product looks extremely compact, but with the maximum achievable runtime of around 3 minutes, is this going to be sufficient for some clients? Boasting a 96.6% maximum efficiency rating in online mode, it is a market leader in this department. The Sentryum also outputs unity power factor and comes with a standard manufacturer warranty of 3 years - NICE!

Up next is the Schneider Electric Easy UPS range, with a larger footprint and height than the others at 600x1000x1970mm. However, this additional space allows for up to TWICE the amount of batteries compared to the Sentryum, meaning autonomies in excess of 10 minutes can be seen. The efficiency is seen at a maximum of 95.8% in online mode. Again, unity power factor is available, but with only a 1-year standard manufacturer warranty, that does seem a little disappointing.

Eaton has always developed first-class products with exceptional management software to work alongside them. The 93PM 60kVA, acts as a modular UPS, but we are suggesting the 60kVA frame without redundancy in this comparison list. It is a well-developed and long-standing UPS system fitting this requirement. Due to its longevity in the marketplace, the 93PM only offers a 0.9pf output. Physical dimensions of 560x914x1876mm sandwich the product between the Schneider and Riello systems as a happy medium. With up to 6 strings of 32x 12V 9Ah available with this model, autonomies can exceed 10 minutes at full load (although as that is 10% less than the other products in this space, like-for-like it would be around 8 minutes). Again, the product fits between Riello and Schnieder for runtime. With efficiency in online mode of 96.6%, the product matches Riello in that regard.

Borri S.p.A. is the last manufacturer we will consider today. The Ingenio Plus 60kVA has been in the market for a few years now and, Borri have very rarely offered products that are not well thought out and developed for the application they are intended for. At 560x940x1505mm it’s not as compact as the Riello Sentrym, but not far away. Considering it has an additional 40x 12V 9Ah contained within its frame, you can see why it needs to be larger. The additional batteries also mean that it offers a respectable 7-minute runtime, which is probably sufficient for most generator startups or remote shutdown of smart devices. Again, unity power factor is the best we can get from our UPS and this achieves that goal with 60kW of active power.

What products have we missed? What's important to you?

One thing I know for sure is, that the 60kVA Sentryum enters a competitive market and will need to be one of the best Riello has ever produced to become the market leader in this power capacity.
