So, we know what a UPS is and what the main components are, what’s next?

Let’s take a look at the different form factors available.

Rarely, UPS can be purchased as wall-mountable systems. Here at TheUPSTeam Ltd, we do offer modified solutions which can be wall-mounted at varying capacities, but generally, this is an unusual design and restricted only to entry-level systems.

Tower design is the most cost-effective design available. Smaller capacity systems, often look like desktop PCs, leading up to higher capacity systems which are almost always tower in design after a certain capacity - at the moment, above 40kVA.

Rack/tower or rackmount is the final option available. Suitable for installation into comms and server cabinets, it provides a solution for emergency power within the cabinet where critical devices are housed. Over the past few years, rackmount options have become available in larger capacities, however, they are rarely utilised from our experience, due to the power capacity of most server cabinets being lower than 10kW.

The suitability of the form factor has to be a consideration when deciding on your next UPS purchase. Where space is at a premium, rackmount UPS add significant value. Where floor space is available, cost savings can be found.
